About speaker:

Jacques Attali was born in Algeria in 1943. Educated at Ecole Polytechnique, Mines Paris Tech and Paris Institute of Political Studies National School of Administration. While at polytechnic school he was first in the class of 1963 and one of the best students at National School of Administration. In 1968, as Doctor in Economics, he began an internship at a prefecture of a French department, and also began teaching economics at the Paris Dauphine University and others.

In 1970, at the age of 27, his political career has becoming as a member of the Council of State. Two years later he published his first two books and was awarded a prize from the Academy of Sciences.

In 1973 he collaborated with Francois Mitterrand leading his presidential campaigns in 1974 and 1981. In the meantime, in 1979, Jacques founded his own international non-governmental organization called the (ACF) Action contre la Faim – Action against Hunger. Later, in 1981, Francois was elected president and appointed Attali as special adviser. Trust between the two men led the president to delegate Jacques Attali with the role of ''sherpa'' – a personal representative of the head of state at the G7 summits.

At the G7 summit in Paris, in 1982, Jacques pleaded economic discipline and as a result, European Eureka program was developed and launched. The intended goal of Eureka was the dedication to coordinate efforts of governments, research institutes and commercial companies concerning innovation.

In the 1990's Jacques left politics. He founded the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London and became its first President. The EBRD's investments focused on protecting the environment, nuclear power plants and generally develop infrastructure reinforcing the private sectors competitiveness.

Well known, not only in the world of economy, but also in artistic and high culture circles. According to the Foreign Policy Magazine Jacques Attali belongs to the top 100 public intellectuals in the world.
