George Clooney

George Clooney is an American actor who is best known for his work in various films like Ocean’s Eleven, Batman & Robin, Leather Heads and Good Night and Good Luck. Along with acting Clooney also does work as a director, screen writer and producer. He first got his start back in the late 1970’s doing small bits on TV shows, this type of work continued through the 1980’s when he appeared on shows like Roseanne and The Golden Girls.

His first real big break came when he landed a starring role on the TV medical drama ER, the show was immensely popular and helped Clooney to break out in the Hollywood scene. He soon landed leading roles in major films like From Dusk till Dawn, One Fine Day and Batman & Robin. In 1999 he left ER and focused on film, quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. He appeared in countless critically acclaimed movies and was even successful as a director, winning several highly regarded awards including an academy award for his work in Syriana and a Golden Globe for his performance in O Brother Where Art Thou. In 2013, he won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture- Drama, the BAFTA Award for Best Picture and the Academy Award for Best Picture for producing Argo. He is the only person in Academy Award history to be nominated for Oscars in six different categories. On January 11, 2015 George was awarded the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

George is also a strong First Amendment advocate with a deep commitment to global humanitarian causes. He has testified in front of Congress, worked with United States presidents, two secretaries of state, and dozens of senators to help bring peace to South Sudan.

In line with his humanitarian efforts, George has also been a strong advocate of eliminating sexual harassment in the workplace: “It is infuriating that women still face sexual harassment at work, regardless of the type of workplace,” said George. “As a society, as a culture, and as workplace leaders, we need to make sure we provide work environments where women feel safe to come forward with their stories. We also need to ensure strict action against those who perpetrate these crimes or turn a blind eye toward them. The time is now to make all workplaces safe for everyone.”

Over the years, George has always been about action. He has produced three successful telethons – “The Tribute to Heroes,” “Tsumani Aid: A Concert of Hope,” and “Hope for Haiti Now,” which raised a record 66 million dollars. In 2010, George, along with the United Nations, Harvard University, and Google, launched the Satellite Sentinel Project, which allows private satellites to take photographs of potential threats to civilians, detect bombs, observe the movement of troops, and note any other evidence of possible mass violence in North and South Sudan. He also co-founded The Sentry to use forensic accountants to follow the money stolen from citizens of Sudan and South Sudan by their governments.

Most recently, George and his wife Amal launched the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which partnered with UNICEF to help 7 public schools provide educational opportunities nearly 3,000 Syrian refugees.

And if all that weren’t impressive enough, George is also a successful entrepreneur. He and two friends founded one of the fastest-growing tequila brands in the world by accident in 2013. Last year Casamigos was sold to Diageo for $1 billion.
