Ludovic Subran is one of Europe’s leading voices on the global economy, financial markets and geopolitical risk. He is Chief Investment Officer and Chief Economist at Allianz, combining responsibility for the Group’s investment strategy with leadership of its economic research. Allianz describes him as having shaped its economic research and strategy as Group Chief Economist since 2019.
Since January 2025, Ludovic has also led Allianz Investment Management, while continuing as Chief Economist and head of Allianz Economic Research. His position gives him a distinctive perspective at the intersection of macroeconomics, capital markets, insurance and institutional investment—connecting global economic developments directly to the decisions facing businesses and investors.
Before becoming Allianz Group Chief Economist, Ludovic served as Chief Economist at Allianz Trade, the global trade-credit insurance business. Earlier in his career, he worked across the public and international sectors, including roles with the French Ministry of Finance, the United Nations and the World Bank. This combination of government, multilateral and private-sector experience allows him to examine economic challenges from both policy and business perspectives.
His work spans the issues dominating boardroom agendas today: economic growth, inflation and interest rates, global trade, protectionism, geopolitical fragmentation, supply chains, investment, AI, energy and climate transition. In 2026, he has been particularly active in discussions around the changing world economic order, including the fragmentation of global trade, geopolitical blocs, strategic resources and the resilience of supply chains.
Ludovic also brings an investor’s perspective to technological disruption. He has written about the economics of the AI boom and the relationship between AI investment, productivity and corporate earnings. Allianz's mid-2026 economic outlook, which he co-authored, examines AI alongside global growth, labour markets and investment conditions.
A regular contributor to international economic debate, Ludovic participates in the World Economic Forum and is frequently called upon to interpret major developments in the global economy. His ability to connect macroeconomic data with geopolitical events and practical business consequences makes him particularly relevant for senior leadership audiences.
As a keynote speaker, Ludovic makes economics relevant to the decisions executives need to make now. His presentations can be tailored to a particular country, region or industry, helping audiences understand not simply what is happening in the world economy, but what it could mean for their businesses, investments and strategic choices.
