Jody Thompson

Jody Thompson and her partner Cali Ressler have fought what might be considered the biggest battle inside the organization in the last decade. They de-structured and fundamentally re-shaped the work culture - systematically obliterating the outdated rules, regulations and old-school management practices that have governed us for decades.

Their creation, Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE), is the next great wave of change in the global workplace. ROWE™ is the centerpiece of the mission at CultureRx®. It is committed to employees being vested in the “big picture” through a new lifestyle; a new way of thinking; a method of engagement and a new yardstick of their commitment to the workplace and their performance. They connect ROWE™ with individuals, small groups, departments, divisions, or large organizations.

Jody and Cali’s first book, Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It, was the manifesto of a ROWE. It attacked the relevance of the “everyone on deck” approach, and opened up the possibility of “everyone on point.” It laid out the problem with work: it’s not the work that sucks; it’s the way we’re forced to do the work that sucks. And it gave people insight into how to fix it. It positioned ROWE as the future of work and not a flexible work program. In their second book Why Managing Sucks and How to Fix It, they held nothing back as they revealed a number of old-school management practices that are still considered viable in workplaces everywhere.

Now, the Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE) is touted as the next great wave of change in the global workplace. Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It, was named “The Year’s Best Book on Work-Life Balance” by Business Week. Why Managing Sucks and How to Fix It is the field guide for how to manage work in the 21st century.

Jody has been featured on the covers of BusinessWeek, Workforce Management Magazine, HR Magazine, Hybrid Mom Magazine, and HR Executive Magazine as well as in the New York Times, TIME Magazine, USA Today, and on Good Morning America, CNBC, MSNBC and CNN. Jody is also a nationally recognized keynote speaker and has presented to numerous Fortune 500 companies and prominent trade associations.

Jody and her partner Cali created ROWE based on the belief that the traditional model of how we approach work is fundamentally broken. They believe that twentieth century management strategies are not the answer for managing a workforce that’s tackling today’s complex business challenges.

The training they've developed is employed globally and is increasing productivity levels, employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and retention in organizations.
