Dick Powell

Highly influential Industrial Designer, Dick Powell is the co-founder of renowned industrial design firm SeymourPowell, the co-host of the Better By Design show and the current chairman of D&AD.

Powell studied Industrial Design in Manchester Polytechnic between 1970 to 1973 before furthering his studies in the Royal College of Art, London, in 1973 to 1976. In 1984, along with Richard Seymour, Powell founded the London-based leading industrial firm SeymourPowell, of which he is still the CEO. SeymourPowell is a group of award-winning designers that has produced some of the ‘milestone’ products of the last two decades.

Along with Richard Seymour, Powell as helped to create some of the most iconic industrial products of the modern consumer age.

Seymour and Powell are also the hosts and feature of the TV show Better by Design, which provides an insight into design process and thinking, produced by TV6.

In Better by Design, Seymour and Powell take on design challenges to improve everyday products.

Along with Better by Design, Powell and Seymour have also made various other radio and television programme appearances.

At present, Powell has been the Chairman of D&AD since 2010. He was a past President of D&AD, and is the recipient of the D&AD President’s Award for his contribution to design.

He has sat on the boards of the Design Council and the Design Business Association.

He was previously the global design advisor to Samsung Electronics and is currently a member of the International Advisory Panel for Design in Singapore.

He is also the Group Creative Director at Loewy.
