Wolfram Trinius

Wolfram is a sustainability and life cycle performance expert with more than 20 years of experience. He joined the Buro Happold Cities team in Berlin in 2023. In his role as Director Sustainability Life Cycle, Wolfram oversees Buro Happold’s life cycle consulting in Europe. His responsibilities include environmental and economic life cycle assessments, as well as supporting life performance, circular economy and net zero carbon approaches. He works on scales ranging from building materials and products through buildings to city districts. Wolfram is also helping to create a Buro Happold global centre of excellence.

His vast career experience spans international research and development projects, innovation processes, environmental and economic cycle assessments, environmental product declarations (EPDs) and the verification and critical review of life cycle assessments (LCA) and EPD projects. He has previously led consultancy projects related to integrated energy and sustainability concepts, supported developers and planning teams and advised on sustainability certifications.

Wolfram studied civil engineering with a focus on building physics and material sciences at the University of Hannover, completing his studies with a master’s degree in Building Science at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. He later undertook a PhD on LCA in building construction, participating in numerous international R&D projects and teaching in the field of LCA. He currently holds a lecturing position at the HafenCity University in Hamburg.

He is a founding member and senior auditor of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) as well as the current chairman of the technical committee. He is also a founding member of the Austrian Sustainable Building Council, the ÖGNI. Wolfram is an independent verifier and member of the methodology committee for the Institut Bauen and Umwelt e.V. (IBU).
