Louis-François Bouchard is an AI engineer, entrepreneur, educator, and one of the leading voices making artificial intelligence understandable and practical for people and organizations. He is the Co-Founder and CTO of Towards AI, a global AI education and technology platform, and the creator of What’s AI, where he explains cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence to a worldwide audience.
Based in Montreal, Louis specializes in turning rapidly evolving AI research into real-world systems that actually work. His expertise spans large language models (LLMs), AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, prompting, evaluations, observability, computer vision, and production AI engineering. His focus is not simply on what the latest AI model can do, but on the engineering decisions required to transform impressive demonstrations into reliable products and business applications.
At Towards AI, Louis works at the intersection of technology, education, and implementation. The company provides AI education, courses, books, community resources, corporate training, and support for organizations adopting and building with artificial intelligence. As CTO, Louis is closely involved in both the technical development of AI systems and the education of the engineers and teams responsible for deploying them.
Louis is also the co-author of Building LLMs for Production, a practical guide to building reliable applications with large language models. His educational work reaches a broad international community through articles, videos, newsletters, courses, and the Learn AI Together community.
Before focusing full-time on Towards AI, Louis studied and conducted research in artificial intelligence and computer vision in Montreal, including graduate-level work connected with ÉTS, Mila – Quebec AI Institute, and Polytechnique Montréal. He ultimately chose to leave the traditional PhD path to focus more directly on building, teaching, and solving real-world AI engineering problems.
Through What’s AI, Louis has developed a reputation for explaining sophisticated AI research without unnecessary hype or oversimplification. His approach combines technical depth with an accessible, practical style, helping audiences understand not only how AI works but how to determine which technologies are genuinely useful.
As a keynote speaker and workshop leader, Louis brings audiences directly inside the world of modern AI engineering. He provides a builder’s perspective on what is happening behind the headlines—showing how organizations can move from experimenting with AI to creating systems that deliver measurable, reliable value.
